You need a valid driver’s licence (usually held for at least one year), a credit or debit card in the main driver’s name to pay and leave a deposit, and the voucher you receive after booking. When renting abroad you often also need a passport.
This depends on the location. In many European countries you can rent from 18, but some suppliers require you to be 21. Most suppliers charge a Young Driver Fee for renters under 25. Enter your age before searching so the fee is included in the total.
Two things: reviews and the rental conditions. Check the supplier’s customer rating and read the rental conditions to make sure the fuel policy, mileage and deposit suit your trip.
Many suppliers now accept a debit card to pay and leave a deposit, though it usually must be a Mastercard or Visa. Always check the Payment Policy in the rental conditions before booking.
When you book through our partner DiscoverCars, you can change or cancel your booking free of charge up to 48 hours before your scheduled pick-up time (local time at the pick-up location) and receive a full refund of any prepayment, either as Booking Credit or back to your original payment method. If you cancel less than 48 hours before pick-up, only Full Coverage or RentalCover is refundable, and only if it was purchased. Bookings made less than 48 hours before pick-up are non-refundable, and no refund is given once the scheduled pick-up time has passed. Cancellations and changes are made through the My Booking section, not with the rental supplier directly.

They handle the confirmation, payment and support for your rental, so your booking is secure and straightforward. Your rental agreement itself is with the car rental supplier you choose at the time of booking.
Many suppliers in Gibraltar allow cross-border travel into Spain and neighbouring countries such as Portugal, but it is not always included and may need to be arranged in advance. Always check the rental conditions at the time of booking, declare your travel plans, and make sure any required cross-border documentation or insurance is included or added as an extra.
The most common fuel policy is Full to Full: you collect the car with a full tank and return it full. This is usually the fairest option and helps you avoid extra fuel charges. The exact policy for your car is shown in the rental conditions before you book, so it is worth checking to avoid surprises.
